2016 saw the rise of Lil Yachty and 21 Savage, but Mula Gang might be claiming 2017. At only 16-years-old, the teenage twins from Sacramento have already released two projects (Twin Stories and Dynasty—both 2016 releases), with features from fellow Northern Californians, Iamsu! and Mozzy—the latter distributed Twin Stories. While they have pockets of fame and select strong followings, lacking consistent popularity impedes their household status—for now.

As underground gems, Mula Gang understands that their mainstream relevance ETA is still a few rest stops off; but they also embrace the importance of soaking in the moment. Their newest song and video, “Flip It,” features the twins taking a lyrical joyride across veteran producer, Zaytoven’s, instrumental. The track commemorates the teenagers’ ability to make money fast, spend it like bosses, and attract haters while luring women. They’ve dedicated an impressive amount of sweat equity into their craft—they deserve to stunt. So how do they celebrate? By waving around stacks in a convenient store, and buying the essentials: Sprite and Backwoods in bulk. Mula Gang is enjoying the fruits of their labor

Although the blonde afro-shrouded teenagers hail from California’s capital, their sound trends towards trap, making Zaytoven’s hi-hat-heavy production a supportive springboard for them to bounce on. Their palpable twin chemistry shines as they comfortably trade bars throughout the song, riding the same wavelength to the song’s closing seconds.

Mula Gang continues to garner fan interest and high-profile co-signs. It’s only a matter of time before that mainstream relevance ETA is within sight. Don’t sleep on these ascending talents—make sure to check out their other work here, and stay updated to hear their latest material.
