Here’s the average day for your average 20-year old male: Wakes up, debates skipping his 8AM Natural Disasters class, skips the class, rips some bong, jerks it and plays some FIFA. Not a bad day, right? Now let’s take a look at the average day for 20-year old Taylor Bennett: Wakes up in the studio from the previous night’s recording session, starts hitting up fellow musicians to collaborate, pens new bars, spends hours in the studio and develops his music group, Tay Bennett Entertainment. No, Taylor Bennett is not your average 20-year old.

But Taylor’s never been an average guy. Growing up in Chicago on 79th street with brother Chance the Rapper, Taylor has always been surrounded by talent and has arduously pursued music. At 14 he began tangoing with Rap and over time he massaged his dreams into a full-fledged reality. His inaugural project, The Taylor Bennett Show, dropped in 2013 and he’s developed his craft through successive releases, Freshman Year: 1st Semester and Mainstream Music, which lead to his most recent and mature drop, Broad Shoulders.

This tape is special for a number of reasons: It’s a testament to his overall development and proves that he is much more than Chance’s little brother. Broad Shoulders is a 10-track collaborative effort between Taylor and best friend/producer, Ludlow. Going against the grain of today’s Hip hop norm, Broad Shoulders enlists original, sample-free production to create an organic product. A blend of up-beat and chill, melodic tracks dominate this album, which provide an awesome and fun listening experience. Tay and Ludlow partnered with Chicago based firm, UPNORTH Music, to distribute Broad Shoulders. When we look back on Tay’s career, this will be the catalyst that catapulted him to that next level.

Since Broad Shoulders’ December release, Taylor has been recording with an assortment of emerging and established artists. Get excited to see features on tracks with Torey Lanez, Kehlani, Vince Staples and Kap-G to name some. Despite all of his success, Taylor remains an extremely humble and gracious individual—all the more impressive given his age. But like I said, Taylor is far from average.

Arguably his most impactful endeavor is his newly launched music group, Tay Bennett Entertainment. A full-service music entity, Tay Bennett Entertainment is keen on empowering the artist and fostering their development. He’s not in it to cash in on their success. No. He genuinely cares about those he works with and in his words, “Be a stepping stone for them”. He gets joy out of seeing his artists and friends achieve success and work towards their dreams. Taylor is a caring, thoughtful individual and his philanthropic efforts extend past the music scene.

Taylor is a proud Chicago resident and desperately wants to better position his city for success. He’s worked with the Chicago program “Kids off the Block”, which steers kids in the right direction and keeps them out of trouble through providing extracurricular activities. He knows the dark turmoil that Chi-town kids suffer from. Hell, he was one of those kids. He wants to do everything in his power to set a good example and offer these youngins alternative options.  That’s just the kind of guy Tay is.

Whether he’s putting in the hours at the studio, opening for Nas at Lalapalooza (yes, you read that correctly) or developing Tay Bennett Entertainment, one thing remains absolute: This kid is busting his ass. Taylor’s engulfed by an incredibly deep Chicago talent pool and he wants to ensure that he’s not just another number. Taylor’s not wasting his time on non-essential activities—everything he does is a calculated move towards his overall goal of greatness. This relentless pursuit of excellence will extinguish Taylor’s greatest fear and enemy: Mediocrity. Again, Taylor Bennett is far from your average 20-year old.
