We’ve all heard of Southern courtly manners, but the West Coast may be supplanting the South as the most hospitable region thanks to the South Central spitter, BMACTHEQUEEN. Whether she asked for it or not, BMAC has an innate role model quality that is exemplified through her work with other artists. She deeply cares about her collaborators, including close friend, Teyana Taylor, and is adamant about helping them achieve their potential. But in order to guide others, having experience and a trusted perspective is vital.

Growing up around cyphers commanded by her bother and his friends, BMAC was given an early look into her future and competition. As a woman, you might think she feared permeating a male dominated field, but when gunshots become your alarm clock, there’s no time for fear; your hardened shell becomes a resting place for the chip on your shoulder. So when her older brother and his boys were exchanging rhymes, she wasn’t intimated; she was inspired. BMAC stepped to the plate and quickly gained her brother & co.’s respect simply because, in her words, “I was better than them, and they knew it.” BMAC’s confidence and swagger grew with every bar she delivered and eventually caught the ear of HS87 leader and former Very G.O.O.D. Beats signee, Hit-Boy.

In the words of Riley Freeman, “Game recognize game, Grandad.” Oh, Hit-Boy recognized her alright. He saw something in BMAC: a fiery passion paired with a California vibe flowing over ripe lyrics. Her flavorful sound earned her respect as well as the inaugural, and exclusive, female spot on HS87’s roster. (You can checkout her mesmerizing verse on the monster HS87 hit, "Grindin' My Whole Life".) Whether she knew it or not at the time, the cyphers with her brother prepared her to compete and prosper in a man’s world. Although BMAC and HS87 have gone separate ways due to creative differences, she’s still close with Hit-Boy and is ferociously developing her music while working with some of the biggest artists in the game.

BMAC’s lyrics for Teyanna Taylor gave the latter the incredible opportunity of being signed to Kanye’s label, G.O.O.D. Music. BMAC leveraged this relationship to work with other big name stars, including: Fabolous, John Legend, R. Kelly, Brandy, Kevin Gates, Jadakiss, Ty$, Tinashe and more—you know, light work. Despite all of these great names, I personally think one of her biggest accomplishments is penning the hook to Kevin Gates’ banger, “I Don’t Get Tired”—I got six jobs, I don’t get tired! SHE WROTE THAT HOOK!

Jumping back to the initial point of this article, BMAC is a role model and cares about the artists she works with. You can hear the maternal nature in her voice when she describes coaching and prepping Teyana for her inevitable superstardom. I honestly just wanted to give her a hug after the interview because she speaks with such hope and conviction, assuring you that everything will be okay. Honestly, you can’t even really catch her listening to rap since she’s usually posted with a blunt chilliln’ to reggae music because she just wants to be consumed by positive vibes. While BMAC has struggled with her own painful life experiences, she’s used that to discover her identity, which has allowed her to better guide her peers and set an admirable example for everyone chasing a dream.

Whether you know it or not, you’ve probably already listened to BMAC through the lyrics she’s provided for the aforementioned stars. But you can’t truly appreciate her gift until you’ve heard her spit bars with her blunt-induced raspy flow. Check out her projects: Black Kid$, Black Engli$h and her most recent drop, Black Kid$ 2: Erika’s Journey, all released under her new endeavor, Upside Down Crown. Trust me, this Queen’s reign has only begun.
