Low key one of the best soundtracks

I’ve said this so many times: I would love to have been a teenager in the ‘90s. Everything just seemed a little better. The streetwear lifestyle was engulfing New York, with the genesis of brands like Supreme. We heard Kel’s cries for, “Who loves orange soda?!” (We know you do Kel, don’t worry). We witnessed the greatest basketball team ever formed. Society was less narcissistic thanks to the absence of social media. Life was simpler. And, most importantly, it was a special time for Hip Hop.

Artists whom are widely considered to be amongst the best and most influential controlled the game—Biggie, Pac, Tribe, Wu Tang, Will Smith, Lauryn Hill, and so many more. Rap was a malleable ball of clay being formed by these greats. But I wasn’t a teenager in the 90s—I couldn’t enjoy these luxuries first hand. I’m forced to experience the ‘90s vicariously through music, old photo albums and movies. One movie that encapsulates this vibe perfectly comes to mind: The Wackness, the 2008 film starring Josh Peck and Sir Ben Kinglsey. The scenery, slang and clothing are true to ‘90s form, but the greatest nostalgic tool utilized is the movie’s soundtrack—low key one of the best soundtracks I’ve ever heard.
